Intercultural
Mediation
Bridging differences through
culturally informed dialogue
In today’s globalised and multicultural societies, conflicts between individuals from different cultural backgrounds are increasingly common—but not always recognised or addressed as intercultural in nature. What may seem like a simple misunderstanding can actually reflect deep differences in communication styles, power dynamics, values, or conflict resolution traditions.
At Speak Up Mediation Services, we understand that culture matters in conflict. Our intercultural mediation service is designed to support individuals and groups who find themselves in conflict shaped—explicitly or subtly—by cultural identity or difference.
When is intercultural mediation useful?
- When parties speak different languages or come from different communication traditions
- When cultural norms shape views on hierarchy, gender roles, time, or decision-making
- When there's a history of misunderstanding between migrants and host communities
- When power imbalances arise due to race, immigration status, or institutional barriers
- In conflicts involving identity, belonging, or cross-cultural team dynamics
Our approach:
- We provide a non-judgmental space where all perspectives are heard and valued
- We work with interpreters or bilingual co-mediators when needed
- We tailor the mediation format to reflect cultural preferences and power dynamics
- We apply trauma-informed and anti-bias principles throughout the process
- We support each party in expressing their needs clearly and being truly heard
With lived experience in migration and multiculturalism, and professional training in both mediation and intercultural awareness, our practice is uniquely placed to support diverse communities. We believe that mediation isn’t just about solving problems—it’s about learning how to understand each other better.

Testimonials
I’m Argentine and living in Dublin, and sometimes it can be hard to find support in Spanish… Working with Yuriria was such a huge relief! I felt understood, supported, and very well guided at all times — whether in person, over the phone, or by message. She’s a very kind, approachable, and dedicated professional. Sharing the same language and cultural background made all the difference. I highly recommend her!
As a separated parent going through a sensitive family situation, having Yuriria as a mediator made all the difference. From day one, I felt heard, supported, and understood without pressure or judgment. She helped guide the process clearly and calmly, which made everything feel much more manageable. Her experience working with international families was especially helpful, as she truly understands the added layers that can come with cross cultural dynamics. I would confidently recommend her to anyone looking for professional, human support during family transitions.
Going through a difficult time is never easy, but finding Yuri, truly made a difference. From the moment I reached out, I felt supported, respected, and genuinely listened to.
She was patient and created a safe space where I could speak openly without fear of judgment.
I’m deeply grateful for the care and dedication shown throughout the process. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her service to anyone facing a tough situation. Sometimes, the right help at the right time can change everything, and for me, this was it.
